Vice President & Chief Director of Programs
April Blount serves as the Vice President and Chief Director of Programs for Greatness Reached over Oppression through Wisdom (GROW), bringing decades of leadership, service, and operational expertise to the organization. Her extensive background in healthcare, transportation management, emergency services, and community development makes her an invaluable asset to GROW’s mission of empowering individuals and strengthening communities.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, April has dedicated her life to serving others. She is a recent graduate with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mental Health Psychology and Industrial-Organizational Health, combining academic excellence with real-world leadership experience. Her passion for improving lives aligns closely with GROW’s commitment to fostering Growth, Resilience, Opportunity, and Well-being.
Throughout her career, April has managed complex logistics operations serving multiple counties throughout Illinois. Her expertise includes profit and loss management, budgeting, maintenance operations, staff supervision, customer satisfaction, and regulatory compliance with the Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). She has successfully developed innovative maintenance tracking systems and systematic route coverage plans that improved operational efficiency and service delivery.
Prior to her leadership roles in transportation and logistics, April spent 17 years serving as a Certified Nursing Assistant and four years as an Emergency Medical Technician, demonstrating a lifelong commitment to caring for and advocating for others. Her dedication to youth development is equally impressive, with 17 years of volunteer service with the Boy Scouts of America, including five years as a Camp Director and seven years as a Health Officer.
April’s achievements have been recognized through numerous honors, including receiving a Safe Driver Award and being named Manager of the Year in 2014. Her ability to lead with integrity, compassion, and strategic vision continues to inspire those around her.
As Vice President and Chief Director of Programs, April oversees the development and implementation of GROW’s initiatives, ensuring that programs are impactful, sustainable, and aligned with the organization’s mission of helping individuals and communities rise above adversity through wisdom, opportunity, and hope.
